Mastercard partnered with Ubirider to launch MaaS App
Mastercard is a global technology company in the payments industry. The company is looking to expand its portfolio in the mobility space. The company has launched Mastercard Urban Mobility Index to measure how mobility is evolving over the period using its payment gateway.
Public Mobility: includes subway, train, and bus buying tickets and boarding public transport
Private Mobility: includes taxi, limo, bike, and scooter riders paying for the rides
Automotive: includes Automotive technologies, from electric vehicles to in-vehicle payments
The index clearly shows that Public Mobility crossed the 100-mark relative to the same month in 2019 towards the end of 2022.
In order to expand its portfolio, Mastercard has partnered with Ubirider to launch mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platform, called Pick, to serve riders, transport operators and cities. Both companies will offer Innovative digital solutions that combine operational, payment, and ticketing resources and data for public transport agencies and operators.
The partnership will allow Mastercard to launch the platform in new cities without installing or replacing the existing ticketing validators.
Some of the recent project’s example are:
Ubirider in partnership with Mastercard implemented the Tap-on-Phone traffic application in the city of Évora incorporated into its app for bus drivers (Pick Driver) to accept contactless payments on-board buses. The buses are operated by the city’s main transport operator – Trevo. The riders can now make contactless payments on board buses with contactless cards, smartphones or smartwatches, quickly and without the need for a physical ticket.
Ubirider has also implemented Pick platform in partnership with Mastercard in the Lisbon metropolitan area. Fertagus, operator of suburban trains collects more than 30% of ticket sales through Pick platform now. The operator is now replacing all validators to have full integration with open loop payment system.
