Kyiv Digital App: From a transportation app to a life-saving app

Kyiv Digital app was originally launched as a smartphone app to allow local residents in Kyiv to pay utility bills and parking tickets. The app had more than a million users and was used to share notifications of everything from transit closures to COVID-19 cases.

Owing to the war and current crisis, the app was transformed “overnight” by its developers into a wartime survival tool. The app now reports:
– Air raid alerts
– Where to find the nearest bomb shelter
– A working pharmacy
– A petrol station
– To help the Ukrainian military

The agency also changed its branding to show support for its military efforts – a friendly sky-blue “K” for Kyiv has been redesigned into a black-and-gray military camo pattern

The app currently has more than 1.5 million users and is playing a key role in the war effort. The users can share their feedback and suggestion which is very heartening. The users can check the maps of food shops, veterinary clinics and pharmacies, which are still working in the city.

The team recently added new features to allow all citizens of Ukraine to provide evidence of destruction for lawsuits in international courts, including:

  • Report war buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure destroyed during the war
  • Add photo evidence of evidence
  • Provide contacts of witnesses to verify the data
