Budapest launched BudapestGo app to move towards MaaS

Budapesti Közlekedési Központot (BKK) is a public transport company in Budapest, carrying around 4.2 million riders every day. The agency has launched a new mobility app – BudapestGo, which allows riders to plan their journey, purchase tickets, and pass, as well as, provide real-time information on the actual transport situations.

BudapestGO replaces the BKK Futár app, which was an earlier mobility app in the city. The riders can purchase tickets and passes for Budapest transit, regional buses, and local public transport lines of every major urban settlement in Hungary through BudapestGO app. The riders can present or validate the ticket using the widget function.

BudapestGO app will also share real-time traffic-related changes during journey planning. Further, riders can select even whether the app should plan their trip with less transfers or walking. Passenges can also book on-demand buses (Telebus service) via this app.

BKK will add new functionalities in the app in the coming days, including:

  • Allowing customers to automatically purchase their monthly passes each month on a continuous basis, similarly to a subscription-based service. They can unsubscribe from this service anytime.
  • Allowing customers to use navigation and book the parking space.
  • Adding more complimentary services including shared bikes and taxis.
  • Integrating other information in relation to the Hungarian capital (e.g. cultural programs, points of selective collection, etc.)

BKK’s long-term goal is to move towards MaaS (Mobility as a Service) application and introduce combined tickets, which help the travel, among others, of families or home office workers.
