STM is installing rear-view mirror Cameras for its Buses
In order to improve driving condition, Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will install a camera system in two buses for one year period to replace the rear view mirrors. The company is looking objective is to reduce the blind spots of these vehicles and improve visibility in difficult conditions, making driving safer.
The rear-view camera system helps to reduce the vehicle’s blind spots, especially when turning left, and improves the driver’s field of vision, while allowing better visibility even in difficult conditions (night, backlight, tunnel, rain, snow, etc).

According to the government data, 31 people lost their life in road accidents in Montreal in 2020. However, most of these death caused by private vehicles. However, STM aims to achieve zero accident goal. Further, the agency believes that the project will help to reduce the down time of buses, owing to less accidents.
Inside the bus, two screens are located on each side of the driver’s compartment to facilitate the transition of drivers, who will be able to maintain their habits. The screens are connected to two cameras on each side of the bus. These are equipped with a system aimed at keeping their lens clean.
