Google to make it easier to pay for transport through maps

Google Maps has added new features to enable travelers to pay for transport tickets and street parking within the app, eliminating the need for users to use multiple applications when planning their trip.

When searching for directions and public transport options in the app, the user will then be informed of which payment methods are available at the station. If Google Pay is an option on the network the user is traveling on, Maps will offer the option to open the credit or debit card linked with that google account, all without leaving the application.

Further, Google Maps is launching a new feature that will show an option to pay for parking with Google Pay as they approach their destination. The users need to set up a Google Pay account. From there, drivers add their meter number, the amount of time they wish to pay for and complete the payment via Google Pay. Parkers can also add time to their meter from their Google Pay app without returning to their vehicle.

In the initial phase, Google will roll out the payment feature to 80 transit agencies around the world. The transit pay option pops up in Google Maps in the user’s directions. In places like San Francisco, users will also be able to buy a digital Clipper card directly from Google Maps. Once they’ve purchased their fare, the user just needs to tap their phone on the reader or show their digital ticket.
